257,000 Doctors Face Meaningful Use Penalties by CMS
/More than a quarter- million of Medicare eligible professionals (EPs) will encounter a 1% penalty to their Medicare Physician Fee Schedule payments starting Jan. 5th, due to failure to meet Meaningful Use by Oct. 1st. 28,000 of these EPs will also receive a 2% penalty for failing to meet an e-prescribing threshold.
The CMS is mailing letters out to the EPs affected by the penalty that will include instructions for how to apply for further consideration. The considerations can be sent to CMS until the end of February.
55,000 EPs have been approved for hardship exemptions by the CMS, and they will have to re-apply for exemptions for 2016, if they do not believe they can meet the threshold again.
