4 Healthcare IT Vendors to Watch in 2015

The following are four Healthcare IT vendors that one should pay attention to in 2015, as healthcare shifts towards greater interoperability and tools for predictive analytics.

Cerner- Cerner Corporation acquired Siemens AG's EHR unit for $1.3 billion in 2014, causing it to have the largest market share of any EHR vendors (1,132 acute care hospitals use its technologies). Cerner also recently launched HealthIntent, which is a multi-purpose, cloud-based program platform that will help advance healthcare toward interoperability.
Accenture- Content Management Systems hired Accenture, a consulting and technology firm, to fix Healthcare.gov's disastrous launch. Accenture now has a $563-million contract to continue working on Healthcare.gov.
Athenahealth- Athenahealth is taking advantage of opportunities in a variety of healthcare markets, ranging from medical billing to EHRs. Recently, AthenaHealth announced that it is acquiring RazorInsights, a provider of cloud-based EHR and financial solutions for rural community hospitals. AthenaHealth wants to be competitive in the smaller-sized hospital market, which accounts for 1/3rd of the U.S. hospital market.
The winner of the DoD contract*—Every major healthcare vendor, such as Epic/IBM, Cerner, Accenture, Allscripts, MedSphere, wants the DoD contract, which is worth $11 billion over 11 years and will ensure market sustainability.

*The Department of Defense Contract is a project designed to replace its existing Military Health System, a network that currently supports close to 10 million people.
