With the recent chatter regarding the potential "doctor shortage," hiring a physician's assistant (PA) or nurse practitioner (NP) when a medical practice is having trouble adding another provider can be a tremendous asset to your medical group. If a physician chooses this route, he or she can increase revenue and take home pay while also increasing patient satisfaction.

The American Academy of Physician Assistants is a verified credentialing resource that can guide doctors through their hiring process.  According to H. Christopher Zaenger, CHBC adding a PA or NP can earn a primary care physician as much as a surgeon and potentially more.  This means physicians have the ability to boost productivity in the short term while expanding their office space and lengthening office hours over the long term.

The healthcare landscape is changing rapidly and this is especially true for healthcare providers. With declining reimbursement and legislative pressures, the traditional ways of providing care are evolving.  Hiring a PA or NP is a great way to start.
