Anthem And Hartford Healthcare Split In Connecticut
/While many healthcare organizations are consolidating to form larger groups, two medical groups in Connecticut have recently split, The Hartford Courant reports.
Connecticut officials “rebuked Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut and Hartford HealthCare for allowing a contract to expire, leaving patients to either pay higher rates or seek medical attention elsewhere for many procedures.”
Many patients now receive care from hospitals or providers that are out-of-network.
It seems a dispute over payment rates was a major reason for the split. A representative from Anthem says Hartford Healthcare “wants a 100 percent guaranteed increase” in payments—an unsustainable amount.
