Cutting Costly Codes Act of 2015 Will Disrupt ICD-10 Once Again

Tom Sullivan of Healthcare IT News reports three major points from the Cutting Costly Codes Act of 2015 which aims to avoid the switch to ICD-10 altogether.
1. The proposed bill does not allow Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to replace ICD-9 with ICD-10. This comes with no shock to anyone.
2. This bill, unlike the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014, will push back ICD-10 indefinitely rather than just one year.
3. Sullivan states that the bill also calls on The Government Accountability Office to “conduct a study to identify steps that can be taken to mitigate the disruption on healthcare providers resulting from a replacement of ICD-9.”
According to athenahealth, one of the country's largest medical billing and electronic health records (EHR) company, 90% of healthcare providers are not ready to make the switch to ICD-10. By the time the U.S. healthcare system implements ICD-10 completely, it will be time to implement ICD-11.
