With All the Cyber-Security Issues, 2015 Could be the Year of the Hospital Hack
/It is predicted that technology hackers targeting medical records from healthcare facilities will become increasingly more common in 2015. According to Websense, researchers claim that over the past ten months they had seen a 600% increase in attacks on hospitals. The increase in medical breaches is due to the switch to electronic medical records. Medical records have identification information, including social security numbers and financial information.
The Ponemon Institute found that 40% of healthcare organizations surveyed in 2014 reported being attacked by malware designed to steal data (a 20% increase from 2010). The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse claims almost 4 million more records were stolen this year than last year.
