FTC Reviews Apple's Security Procedures For Health Data

In this recent article by Business Insider, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is thoroughly reviewing how  Apple prevents leaks of sensitive health data. Health data can be collected through smartphones and other mobile devices without a consumer's permission.  As we reported yesterday, health data is worth ten times more than credit card information

Apple has assured the FTC that they won't sell their confidential information to third party groups such as marketers. In fact, Apple’s spokeswoman Trudy Muller states that "We designed HealthKit with privacy in mind."

HealthKit is one of Apple’s newest apps that gives mobile users the ability to dictate how their data should be shared.

In August, Apple created stronger security procedures. Making sure those who give out their medical data actually give consent. Additionally, the data that is logged is also encrypted on that device to prevent hackers from receiving it.

Edith Ramirez, Chairwoman of FTC praised Apple for being proactive with the security of their customers medical data.
