Harvard To Rename Public Health School After Receiving Largest Gift Ever

Harvard University's School of Public Health has received its largest-ever gift from the family of a wealthy alumnus, the New York Times reports. The Morningside Foundation, spearheaded by brothers Ronnie and Gerald Chan, has given the school a staggering $350 million donation.

“It’s always been, as the whole field always is, under-resourced,” said Harvard president Dr. Drew Faust of public health academics funding. “It’s overwhelmingly dependent on money from federal grants that are under threat.” The Times notes that just six larger donations have ever been made to American universities.

Faust says that money will be used to bolster the School of Public Health's finances, and that the institutition will be renamed for the Chans' father as the T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
