Healthcare Boasts the Highest Salaries

A new study from CareerCast.com shows that 6 of the top 10 highest paying jobs are in healthcare. Surgeons earn the highest salary averaging $352,220 and psychiatrists comes in second with a median salary of $181,880. No. 3 on the list is general practitioners earning around $180,180 per year. While the average debt of a medical school grad is around $180,000 according to Medscape.com and 41% of doctors age 40 to 44 are still paying off that debt, these jobs are expected to grow 18% between 2012 and 2022.
 
Dentists are also on the top 10 list with a median annual salary of $146,340 as well as orthodontists earning about $129,110 while pharmacists earn around $121,000 per year. Before their earnings is senior-level corporate executives who make approximately $173,320 per year, putting them at no. 4. Petroleum engineers are also top earners with an average annual salary of $130,050 and a field that is expected to grow by 26% from 2012 to 2022 especially due to the increasing need for safer ways to extract fossil fuels. Data scientist come in at No. 8, with a median annual salary of $124,150 and a growth outlook of 15%.
