JP Morgan Chase Hacked In August, 76 Million Households Affected

According to the New York Times, “A cyber attack this summer on JPMorgan Chase compromised the accounts of 76 million households and seven million small businesses, a tally that dwarfs previous estimates by the bank and puts the intrusion among the largest ever.”

Hackers accessed personal information like “names, addresses, phone numbers and emails of JPMorgan account holders.” Sensitive financial and social security information was not breached, however.

JPMorgan will spend $250 million dollars to bolster its online security.

The healthcare field has faced similar security breaches. As more patient information is stored electronically, it is important for providers to ensure this information is adequately protected.
