Lethal Delays Cause Resignation of Senior Deputy of Veterans Affairs

Robert Petzel, a senior deputy of the Department of Veterans Affairs stepped down this afternoon.  Allegations of falsifying patient waiting lists to cover up long delays have led to dozens of veterans deaths at the Phoenix VA hospital. According to Secretary Eric Shinseki "most veterans are satisfied with the quality of their V.A. health care, but we must do more to improve timely access to that care.” Dr. Robert L. Jesse, who is currently the principal deputy undersecretary for health will take over as acting undersecretary for Mr. Shinseki.
