Medicaid Reimbursement Continues to Deteriorate

Medicaid pays doctors approximately 60% of what Medicare pays. According to the law, Medicaid rates must be "sufficient to enlist enough providers" so that patients have as much access to care as the general population in that area. However, the Obama administration told the Supreme Court that heath care providers had no right to enforce the equal access stipulation in court.

Therefore, this rule governs the Medicaid rate set by state officials, but does not allow for physicians to sue state officials to enforce it. Medicaid now covers approximately 1/5th of Americans, and the physicians that take care of these patients are not given a fair rate.
