The importance of a strong medical practice team, from top to bottom has never been more important.  Practices are investing heavily in EHR and Revenue Cycle Management technology to keep up with legislative guidelines as well as increase efficiency.  However, there is a crucial element medical practices are forgetting, the human element. The relationship between clinical leaders and administrators is vital. Communication is a necessary part of this relationship to ensure strategic goals are met.  If you train your administrative team well and can trust in their abilities, your medical practice will reap the rewards of this partnership.  The American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) President and CEO Peter Angood, MD, FRCS(C), FACS, FCCM stated:

“A well-trained clinical leader knows and understands the administrative side, but has a strong appreciation for how those non-clinical administrators have been trained and what their perspectives are.”

Healthcare is changing at a rapid pace; in order for medical groups to stay successful, everyone needs to be on the same page.  Medical groups and healthcare organizations should not lose sight of their true purpose, and that is the patients they care for. In order to maintain a healthy practice and provide quality care, clinicians, technology, and administrators must be in sync.
