SGI to Power ITMI’s Genomic Databases to Better Understand Diseases
/SGI is a global leader in high-performance computer solutions for data analytics and management. Inova Translational Medicine Institute (ITMI) selected them to enable researchers to obtain insights from its premier genomic databases. ITMI's genomic database is one of the largest in the world and is the only database of its kind connected directly to a community health system. It further transformed healthcare from reactive to predictive medicine by analyzing and modeling massive amounts of data.
ITMI requires significant computer power to leverage genomic data and enhance personalized and precision medicine. SGI is handling the workload through the SGI(R) UV(TM) 2000 advanced symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) system and InfiniteStorage (TM) 5600. The system is SGI's most input/output intensive UV machine and provides the best memory-to-processor ratio thus automating data processes and increasing data efficiency and analysis.
ITMI has conducted significant studies using SGI UV 2000, including a translational study, which has successfully diagnosed sick infants more than 60% of the time. The SGI UV 2000 system has reduced ITMI’s administrative IT burden and is already dramatically improving patient care via faster and more accurate diagnosis.
