The growing healthcare sector offers a lot of opportunity for careers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects that from 2012 to 2022, the healthcare and social assistance industry will produce 1/3rd of new jobs in the U.S., which ultimately means 5 million new jobs will be created by 2022. CareerCast recently released a list of the top 10 jobs it believes to be best in healthcare based on work environment, physical demands, life-threatening risks, competitiveness and travel.

The article ranked the professions based on high to low salaries. First on the list is pharmacist with an average salary of $116,670 and the growth rate for the job is expected to be 14% by 2022. Second is podiatrist, with an expected growth rate of 23% by 2022. Podiatry is a field of opportunity because there aren’t enough podiatrists to fill all of the positions needed. Third on the list is physical therapist, who makes a salary of $79,860 and has a growth rate of 36%.

Tony Lee, publisher of CareerCast, expects the job market to pick up in the next few years.
