Bloomberg reports the first Ebola patient in the US, Thomas Duncan, could have cost the hospital $1,000 an hour.

Included in his treatment were “fluids replacement, blood transfusions and drugs to maintain blood pressure. There’s also the cost of security, disposing of Ebola-contaminated trash and equipment to protect caregivers.”

One health executive says, “the bill for Duncan’s care may eventually total $500,000 including indirect costs such as the disruption to other areas of the hospital.”

Since Duncan came to the US on a travel visa and is not a citizen, it is still unclear who will foot the bill.
