Ventas Real Estate Investment Trust Acquires American Realty Capital Healthcare For $2.6 Billion

Ventas Real Estate Investment Trust, the country's largest healthcare REIT, focuses primarily on the purchase and management of medical office buildings and senior living communities. In a release today, Ventas announced their acquisition of American Realty Capital Healthcare a a price of over $2.6 billion.  Ventas Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Debra Cafaro said in the statement. “We are continuing our focus on private-pay assets, expanding our industry-leading medical-office building footprint and international presence.” Ventas also purchased 29 senior housing communities in Canada from Holiday Retirement, in a deal worth $900 million USD.  It would not be surprising to see at least one more deal announced before the end of 2014.
