Another One Bites the Dust.. Scripps Chooses Epic

Healthcare IT News Mike Milliard reports that Scripps Health, owner of four hospitals and more than 25 clinics, has chosen Epic to replace its EHR and revenue cycle management systems. Scripps currently uses GE Healthcare's Centricity Enterprise EHR in its hospitals and Allscripts for its ambulatory centers. Epic will allow Scripps Health to fully integrate the hospital and outpatient sites. Implementation of the Epic system in Scripps Health is expected to be launched mid-2017.

Scripps Health joins the Mayo Clinic as the latest major health system to choose Epic's services. The Mayo Clinic replaced Cerner to implement Epic's Single Integrated EHR System. 

However, Epic is under pressure from Congress for not participating in the CommonWell Health Alliance that other large vendors have joined which promotes interoperability.  Jonathan Bush, athenahealth's CEO echoed Congress members sentiments. Rather than joining them, they decided to lure health systems one by one to their platform. This is certainly a strategy that seems to be working, unfortunately.
