Healthcare.gov Retains More Clients Than State Run Exchanges
/According to a report by Avalere Health, government exchanges monitored by the state are not as successful as those controlled by the federal government. 79% of those who used HealthCare.gov for their coverage re-enrolled this year. However, state-run exchanges only retained about 69% of 2014 healthcare subscribers. Avalere also claims that the federal enrollment jumped more than 60% to 8.8 million, meanwhile the state-run exchanges only increased enrollment by 12% to 2.8 million. Most major insurance companies, such as Aetna and United Health Group, offer health insurance through federally facilitated exchanges.
The Supreme Court is currently dealing with the King v. Burwell case to determine if wording in the Affordable Care Act disqualifies states for subsidies that didn't establish their own exchanges. If the court decides in June to eliminate subsidies for those who purchased healthcare on the federal exchange, subsidized enrollment would decrease from 13.7 million to 4.1 million.
